How my approach works

My humanistic philosophy

My approach to therapy is based on a proven principle of how human beings grow. We are able to move forward in our lives when we are supported to become who we are, as opposed to forcing ourselves to be different. Sometimes life is hard. We experience loss, trauma, adversity, harshness, lack of understanding or feel unable to meet the expectations of life, others or ourselves. We begin to struggle and can lose touch with our capacity to value ourselves as we are. My therapy works by supporting you to begin to repair trust in yourself by raising your self-awareness with compassion. In the safety of our relationship, founded on mutual trust and respect, you will feel able to be vulnerable and explore yourself, less burdened by fear of judgement or shame. As your self-compassion grows, a space can open up where you are able to find new ways through old difficulties. This can feel like a new sense of lightness and curiosity in yourself.

My integrative practice

My core training is Person-Centred and Gestalt Psychotherapy, which emphasise the central importance of a genuine, open and curious relationship between us, where your unique experience is valued - just as it is. To create this, I bring my warm presence, curiosity, gentle playfulness and sometimes my own vulnerability to support you to understand yourself at a deeper level. In the safe place we create together I integrate approaches that help you to find more acceptance for your whole self and strengthen mind-body connection. I integrate Parts work, Mindfulness and Self-compassion and trauma-informed practice.

I receive regular supervision for my practice in accordance with the UKCP. I continue to invest in training to support my professional development, for the benefit of my clients. To connect with me WhatsApp me on 07812590503 or email me at lucywalthoetherapy@gmail.com
